Deice Message

In my never ending quest to learn this bird; The last couple of times I've flow it's been in icing conditions. The last one I had messages to that effect, this flight not. Anyway, I did the deice on the ground and both took off and flew well, but in both instances when I opened Services there was a message under Deice Request that read 'STOP THE PLANE'. Is that an indication I need to land because I'm not getting any message.
Thanks,
Ernie

  • The question is are you operating the aircraft properly during icing conditions
*Deice aircraft prior to pushback so that snow/ice accumulated on the engine intakes can be removed and not ingested into the engine
    - Engine intake - OPEN
    - Deice boots selected on - in flight once TAT is +10 or lower

  • Thanks for the reply. I did the deice on the ground and the intakes were open, but I don't recall the state of the boots. If there was a message on the MFD they would have been on, but can't say for certain. I searched the Internet, but nowhere can I find an explanation of when or why the message occurs. Looks like I may need to leave the page open and see when or if it pops up again. Getting warmer in NA, so could be a while.

  • Now that I have read a bit closer - Where are you seeing this message "STOP THE PLANE?" Is this in GSX?

  • Q400; FMC; DATA ; Deice Request. I'm not sure when it populated, but sometime after I released the GPU unit. Once the GPU is gone, I usually don't go back into that option, but just happened to.

I tried to replicate it on the ground using Active Sky's historical weather, but failed. the message didn't stop me from flying, and with the warmer weather it may not pop up again. I was just curious if anyone else had seen the message.

  • Then this is a message advising that the aircraft has been sitting in icing conditions. How long after the deicing event did you get airborne as there should be some logic built in for hold over times if you sit on the ground for an extended period of time which may require deicing to be done.

It's been a while since I have ran a test in this area, but I do remember we put some logic in regarding that.

  • Thank you. That's very likely since I tend to be slow doing my checklist and probably exceeded the time between when I did my deice and leaving the ground. I now know that I need to recheck prior to my taxi out.
