I just did the CYYZ Rwy 5. Latest Jeppesen charts.
Proceed as follows:
Climb 3000 Ft
RNAV Z Rwy05
On route to SELAP LNAV
VNAV parameters entered
Arm APP
About 5 Nm before SELAP 2500 Ft entered
VNAV armed
Down on the path as expected
ALT 3000 Ft entered in case of GA
GA at 1000 Ft
Follow the GA procedure towards AVTEK climb to 3000 Ft
After about 2 minutes, HDG SEL to SELAP then LNAV
VNAV parameters re-entered
Arm APP
About 5 Nm before SELAP 2500 Ft entered
VNAV armed
On the path altitude 3000 Ft entered in case of another GA
Down to 200 Ft on the AP
Landing manually
All OK
As FraPre rightfully said: stick to this approach until it works otherwise it would not be possible to identify your problem.
I recorded through p3dv4.5 and I got a file .fsr which is impossible to playback.
If you have a tip how I could record a flight, thank you to let me know.
After the GA I fly HDG following the missed apch instructions.
The ALT and ALT SEL have been previously set to 3000 Ft.
Towards AVTEK reaching 3000 Ft I continue on HDG and start turning still in HDG like if ATC was instructed me, say HDG 360 then HDG 300 then HDG 270 then when cleared to SELAP (by myself as I am doing the ATC as well) I switch to LNAV then check the VNAV page to make sure 3000 is entered for SELAP, set ALT 2500 and VNAV.
Then everything goes automatically and when the altitude is below 2500 Ft I set it again to 3000 Ft in case of another GA.
And that's it.
One or two things to correct.
After YUL HDG 240. OK.
Then I would have prepared a DTO XULTA in the FMS to be ready to arm LNAV when ATC clears you to XULTA for your approach.
Then when you have been cleared and on LNAV, arm VNAV (an altitude 500 Ft below is enough to have the VNAV working).
Always be ahead of the aircraft, not behind.
I know, very difficult to fly an aircraft designed for two pilots when you are only one pilot doing everything.
Gear down and flaps 15 a bit too early.
What I am saying now has nothing to do with you, I do not like the way the FMS reacts. Most probably it is internal to the sim but it is not logic that the descent starts at XULTA 200 Ft/mn and afterwards the ROD is reaching up to 1000 Ft/mn at 24'15".
I said it before, I would rather prefer to do a LNAV and descent in V/S, starting the descent 1.5 Nm before ETGIL (as shown on the chart) around 700 Ft/mn, depending of the GS and ajusting if necessary. It would avoid the roller coaster effect. That is only my personal opinion.
Thats it, the red circle.
You prepare the configuration around XULTA to have the aircraft ready to start the final descent.
When you do the descent manually with V/S you start about 0.3 Nm before the TOD and adjust (if necessary) the ROD every Nm.

LNAV ?
There is no more waypoint after that
I must clic on VTO to get new approach.
What parameters ?
I must go fms/NAV/TO/AND PUT IAF WAYPOINT after holding waypoint and go to IAF by alt select. 😀
And you enter vnav to IAF ?
That would be the best for me.
I recorded through p3dv4.5 and I got a file .fsr which is impossible to playback.
If you have a tip how I could record a flight, thank you to let me know.
I'll see if it works with p3d
Sorry but, maybe because I have 3 screens, the recording was done from the right seat, very bad quality and not understandable.
I tried again to record without success but all the approaches, GA and approaches again went fine the way that they shoud go.
After the GA I fly HDG following the missed apch instructions.
The ALT and ALT SEL have been previously set to 3000 Ft.

sorry for my last video.
It s CYUL runway 6 L
Can you check if my procedure after go around is ok for second try ?
I observed i must go to fms/NAV/TO/AND PUT IAF WAYPOINT
after i must to go FMS RNAV page and TO IAF waypoint.
is it ok like this ?
That's good.

Bonne journée,

This is valid for a VOR / DME quite similar than LNAV
Have a look here, jpgmultimodal has set the Flybe procedures as images for all approaches

IAF and FAF have nothing to do with the final descent.
By following the above (Flybe), 3 nm from TOD you prepare the aircraft to be ready for the final descent.
If you do it too early you are going to use more TRQ and more fuel as you'll have more drag.
If you do it too late you are not going to be ready on time for your descent and you'll have to increase your ROD to follow the path.
What your TOD ?
I don't understand.
TOD = Top of Descent
the TOD of your final descent when you are going to land.
In your ex: CYYZ around RONTA and CYUL around XULTA
Thats it, the red circle.
You prepare the configuration around XULTA to have the aircraft ready to start the final descent.
When you do the descent manually with V/S you start about 0.3 Nm before the TOD and adjust (if necessary) the ROD every Nm.
