West Vancouver FlightSim Club

edited September 2018 in General

I created a FlightSim Club at the West Vancouver Seniors Activity Centre way back in 2002 (when I was 67 – yikes!). It is still going strong today and we were featured in the Centre’s newsletter this month. It can be seen at:

There are all types in the Club from those who just come to watch, to those who are deeply committed to this fascinating hobby. For example the pilot at the yoke is Peter, who has built himself an incredible cockpit in his basement with virtually a 180º panoramic screen, which makes it quite uncanny when you can look to the side and see the scenery going by!

We are well set-up for software and have many of the ORBx sceneries and airports. I periodically demonstrate the Q400, particularly the FMC. At our next meeting we have a retired corporate pilot with 10,000 hours of varied cockpit experience, who is to demonstrate the operation of the Learjet.

Me - I am the one in the red shirt.

  • Congratulations, on 16 years for your Flight Simulator Club. It's nice to see the community supporting flight simming as a social activity for all ages. The article mentions your free version of CYVR.
I remember it very well as I had used it for several years, before I made the switch over to L.M.'s "Prepared". I can honestly say that your rendition of CYVR, along with Jon Patch's "Vancouver Plus", and the "Fanda" Dash 8-300, were what got me permanently hooked on flight simming.
Heres wishing you and your club members many more years of friendship, and happy landings. Thank-You, for sharing your time and passion for this incredible hobby.

  • Hi Craig

Sorry for the inordinate delay in acknowledging your post, I am very gratified that my CYVR so influenced your flight simming. Unfortunately it was quite resource hungry but it was reasonably representative of CYVR in those days. But the FSDreamTeam is a wonderful presentation and so realistic.

I started my CYVR back in about 2002 when I came down with a bought of pneumonia for three months, so what to do when sitting around the house with doing to do. It was a great opportunity and a lot of fun but sure time absorbing, I couldn't do it in a normal life, my wife would rightly object!

With the hacking of this site I lost all my previous pm's, I suspect we messaged on the wood burning plant at Williams Lake, or was that someone else?

Anyway, thx for your kind words - made me feel good!

    regards
    Nigel

The same guy, and you're welcome, Nigel.
