Migrate to new dds texture format?

I use some repaints and they come in .dds format. That loads the textures twitch such as vcpanels.dds in the addon texture and vcpanels.bmp in the common texture? Turning on Dome and Storm lighting sometimes flashes all textures and I looked at what could cause and found the different formats. Can you move all your common default textures to .dds from .bmp?
