VTO-Question

Hallo everybody, when performing a VTO I see on the VNAV-Page "VDEV" with a contious changing number. I guess it means "Vertical Deviation", but which Deviation? I cant identify any context. So please teach me what it means.
Thanks and regards, Guenther

  • Hello Guenther,

    from the FMS Manual
"VDEV and an indication of deviation, in feet, above or below the programmed flight path will replace the TOD. The HSI vertical deviation indicator will display this deviation if the aircraft is capable. Vertical steering signals will be provided to a compatible FGS."

If you fly exactly on the virtual descent profile, the deviation is 0, if you deviate, the difference is displayed in +/- ft. These deviations arise e.g. due to wind influences, changes in thrust management or speed
