APU won't power on

I have a problem when pressing the PWR-button on APU Control-panel, the buttons goes flickering (self test?) and then nothing happends. Suddenly after several attempts and maybe 20-30 minutes the Fuel valve is suddenly opening when pressing PWRm and the rest of the procedure can start.

Any help?

  • To help you understand, you press the APU PWR switch, it obviously takes the self-test (all the switches there with their lights light up briefly in a cycle), but the APU fuel valve stays closed (white light) in the Fire Protection Control Panel? It should actually light up the green lamp for open.

  • The green lamp dosen't turn on. That's my problem :)

  • Hope this isn't a silly question but.... after pressing PWR and self test completes, do you then press START? The PWR button doesn't make the APU start.

  • Also, are you in the air when doing this?

  • bravomike makes a good point, Q400 APU is not rated for use whilst airborne, if there's no weight on the wheels, the APU will not start.
