Prop rpm overspeed

Today during a flight, when I was decreasing the prop levers at CRZ, I accidentally put them in the Idle/Feather detent. The prop rpm went into yellow zone. I put the prop levers back into the CRZ detent, but the prop rpm would not come down to green. How can I get the rpm back to normal, if I happen to do this again?

You mean the condition levers? This is a critical point, and if you look closely in the videos, you can see that when you pull the CL back to MIN 850 RPM, you often put a hand behind the CL to be on the safe side so as not to get below the 850 RPM position. At that moment the speed would drop below 850, so that from 816 RPM the AUPC (Automatic Underspeed Protection Circuit) responds and locks itself. Normally this cannot be reset in flight.

  • @FraPre broke it down in a nutshell, and assuming that you have the PRO edition of the Q400 there is an abnormal checklist to assist with this event.
  • thx guys. will check out that checklist
