Radio frequency increment

Hi. Yesterday I had my first flight on VATSIM with the q400, and they asked me to tune to a frequency that ended in .070 or similar. Is this frequency impossible to tune in this aircraft? I couldn't find information elsewhere on this topic.

  • Hello Jens,

As far as I know, the Q400s that we have do not have the 8.33 Khz spacing. I think it would be advisable to write that in the remarks of the FPL when flying on line.

  • Thank you, I will do that in the future. Have a nice day.

You will find if you tune to the nearest frequency possible on your radio, VATSIM will tune just fine.

FSX and P3D engines do not support 8.33 KHz channel spacing anyway (just old school 25 KHz), so any radio in the sim displaying 3 decimal places is just for show (behind the scenes it's just picking the closest 25 KHz channel), and the online controllers reading out the frequencies to 3 decimal places are doing so to replicate real life, the back end systems are still ultimately 25 KHz too.

  • On VATSIM, ignore the third decimal. It's a result of older sims and software not being able to interpret the xxx.xx5-frequencies. Set whatever gives you a match of the first two decimals.

  • Hi,

I am reviving this old thread. VATSIM goes to 8.33 kHz spacing. So we need a patch to allow the 8.33 kHz channel spacing. Any chance to get an update?
