I haven't "upgraded" to V5 yet, still running on V4.5 and thinking about the future...
Do I actually need 1.021? Is there anything in 1.021 other than the ability to install in P3DV5? Any fixes or updates that I really need in V4.5?

Yes, I too am still running P3D v4.5 with HF3. So I would be interested in an answer to this question also.
That said, I note the User Area for me shows this:
